The Indian Standard was adopted by the Indian Standard Institution after approval by Civil Engineering Divisional Council. The IS Codes covers the procedure for analyzing the stability of Earthen embankment/dam slopes for different conditions of loading to which dam/ embankments is expected to be subjected during its life time.

IS-1892-1979:

This code mainly deals with the sub surface investigation for foundations to determine the

  • Sequence and extent of each soil and rock stratum in the region likely to be affected by the proposed work.
  • Nature of each stratum and engineering properties of soil and rock which may affect the design and mode of construction of the proposed structure.
  • Location of ground water and possible corrosive effect of soil and water on the construction materials.
