What We Do

  • Hydro meteorological data are being collected by different Investigation Divisions of WRD and kept in hard copy format at Guwahati Investigation Circle. These data are utilised to formulate different FMP, RIDF & other projects undertaken by WRD. These informations are available in the design part of any DPR.

Digitisation & storing of hydro-meteorological & sediment data of Assam collected by different Investigation Division of WRD have been started at the Data Centre of AWRMI from 2013 for easy accessibility and utilization. The digitised hydro-meteorological & Sediment data are now available at Data Centre of AWRMI to formulate projects. These digitised data will be required to formulate upcoming projects & research activities.

Laboratory analysis of Soil Samples pertaining to the various projects and schemes under the Flood Management programs are carried out in the Soil & Material Testing Laboratory at AWRMI. These projects are related to the raising & strengthening of the embankments, bank protection works etc. The laboratory experiments includes Classification of Soil Samples, Grain Size Analysis, Specific Gravity, Atterberg’s Consistency, Moisture Content, Wet & Dry Densities, Void, Porosity, Unconfined Compression Test, Cohesion, Angle of Internal Friction, Angle of Repose, Consolidation parameters, Standard Proctor Compaction Test etc. Material Testing experiments includes Cube Compressive Strength Test, Water Absorption, Los Angel’s Abrasion Test, Geological description of rock samples etc.

To expose the different aspects of mighty Brahmaputra to the nation and abroad in a documented pictographic manner the Brahmaputra gallery was set up in collaboration of NASI and is open for public display since Feb/2015.
